Week 2: May 14-15, 2022
Hooked on Leadership
Who may attend? Today’s Wood Badge is for all leaders in the Boy Scouts of America. It has been developed for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing leaders, as well as Council and District leaders. The course content and leadership principles introduced apply to Scouters of all leadership positions and will provide a common foundation of leadership skills to be used throughout all program areas.
Qualifications to attend: Each Scouter invited to participate in Wood Badge training must be at least 18 years old, be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America, and have completed the basic training courses for their current Scouting position. They must be physically cleared by a physician and present a completed BSA medical form.
What is Wood Badge? In 1919 Lord Robert Baden-Powell developed and organized a training program for adult leaders that became known as Wood Badge. It is the advanced leadership training for adult leaders in any of the scouting programs. For most Scouters it’s one of the highlights of their scouting career. The purpose of Wood Badge is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units in achieving the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.
Why attend? You want to participate in a Wood Badge course because of things you will learn and do. Here are some of the benefits: Stronger units. You will make your Scouting unit — and your sons’ and daughters’ units — stronger. What and why of Scouting. You will have a deeper understanding of what Scouting is and why we do it. Experience. You will learn and experience things that will stay with you in Scouting and the rest of your life. Fun. You will have fun and you will meet interesting people. Other groups. You will make your other groups, like work, church, even family, stronger.
Where and when is the course offered? At Camp Geiger, Pony Express Scout Camp near St. Joseph, MO. The Course is planned for two weekend segments, April 29-May1, & May 14-15, 2022.
What is the cost? $200 with a $100 minimum registration deposit. If registering after February 1, 2022 the cost will increast to $225.
