Klondike Derby
January 13-15, 2023
New Harrison County Lake in Bethany, MO
Cost $ 10 per participant (includes awards & patch)
All registered Scouts BSA members are invited to attend.
The year is 1897 and gold has been discovered near Dawson. Men are racing across the Calced Mountains by means of dogs and sleds and down the Yukon River to reach the gold filled creeks. It is winter and sled teams will encounter hard challenges for their sled and team (field stations). So Be Prepared.
Field Stations: Height & Distance, First Aid, Knots/Pioneering, Compass, Fire Building, Signaling, Cooking, and Sled Race.
Schedule:
Friday, January 13
Camping - open all day. Units will be on their own.
8:00pm-8:20pm - Leader meeting at HQ
Saturday, January 14
7:30am-8:00am - Leader Meeting at HQ
Check-in : The Senior Patrol Leader & Team Scribe will submit a list of their scouts by Patrol Teams at check in. Each Patrol Team will be made up of 6 to 8 scouts. Teams will get a station to start from.
7:30am-8:50am - All Patrols at HQ for Sled Inspection
8:00am - Opening Ceremony / Flag Ceremony
9:00am-9:50am, 10:00am-10:50am, 11:00am -(cook in this station) 1:00, The Team will build a fire and cook. Be Prepared to cook and eat lunch for your patrol as well as (1) judge at that station.
9:00am-3:50pm - To the 7 Field Stations Teams stays at their station till then.
4:00pm-4:30pm - All Patrols at HQ for Sled Inspection and Sled Race
5:10pm-6:30pm Dinner
8:00pm-9:00pm: Camp fire
11:00pm: Lights out
Sunday, January 14
8:00am-9:00am: Breakfast
9:30am-Church and Closing / Flag Ceremony / Awards Ceremony
10:15am - Head home
The Klondike Derby will be held as scheduled. The only way it will be cancelled is for the area to be virtually shutdown by the weather or the Highway Patrol asks for everyone to stay home.
New Harrison County Lake is 12 miles North of Bethany on W Highway.
